Meghan Markle and Prince Harry use security concerns as a ‘convenient excuse’ to avoid returning to the UK, according to US journalist Lee Cohen.
He told GBN America that the Sussexes are actually avoiding making the trip across the pond due to the prospect of an ‘ugly’ public reception.
“Harry should make the trip without Meghan”, Cohen told Nana Akua.
“Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan has only returned to the UK on scant occasions, including Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
“However, she did not attend the King’s Coronation in 2023. Harry attended alone and many Britons share the opinion with me that they would be thrilled to have seen the back of her after the insults to their country and beloved institutions.
“The Sussexes use the issue of security. They use security as a convenient excuse, but I believe what they really fear is an ugly public reception.
“Were Mrs Markle to return, who could dispute that an ugly public reception would be well deserved?”
Harry is set to speak at the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service to be held at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8.
While Meghan is listed as a guest on the official running order, her attendance is yet to be confirmed.
According to Cohen, the Duchess is not likely to be alongside her husband, adding this is further proof of Meghan lacking respect for Harry’s home country.
“This woman is a narcissist who only marches to the beat of her own drum”, he said.
“She is not motivated by the noble codes of monarchy, hardly. She has no interest in her husband’s country.
“She’s seemingly not moved at all by family ties, either to her husband’s or even to her own family.
“If it doesn’t benefit her brand or ambitions, she has no time for it.”
Speaking on GB News earlier in the month, ex-Sun royal editor Charles Rae had similar doubts about Meghan’s attendance.
Speaking about her potential return, Rae said: "I will believe it when I see it, until I see her step off that plane I do not believe that she will be here. I think too much has gone on, and I'm sure that if she does come she will get a very cuddly and warm welcome.
"You have just got to look at the last few years and see what the Sussexes have done with their continued criticisms of the Royal Family and the fact that we've heard before that she doesn't want to come back to this country.
"In actual fact, the organisers of the event on May 8th for the Invictus Games church service, they've only got her name pencilled in as a TBC (to be confirmed)."
