Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been forced to go through a "work divorce" after receiving a lot of "negative reception", according to one expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex seemed like an unstoppable duo when they stepped down from the Royal Family in 2020. The couple worked together to become financially independent, signing an £18million deal with Spotify and an exclusive £80million contract with Netflix.
However, things started to crumble for the couple when their Spotify deal collapsed. Their Netflix contract is also set to expire next year, with no sign of it being renewed. Instead, Meghan and Harry seem to be taking a solo approach to their work, something relationship expert Louella Alderson says is the "best route for them".
Meghan recently announced she will be creating a brand new podcast with Lemonada Media, but without the help of Harry. The Duke of Sussex also branched out without his wife during an interview with Good Morning America.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Louella said: "Meghan and Harry's decision to go their separate ways work-wise is likely a decision based on the negative reception their joint projects have received so far. After the projects that they embarked on together, like their Spotify deal, haven't garnered them the positive attention they were after, they may have realised that working together professionally might not be the best route for them at this time."
However, the relationship expert insisted their work separation is not a reflection on their marriage. She explained: "This decision doesn't necessarily reflect on their relationship as a whole but more on the brand direction they are choosing to take."
Louella also said now is a good time for Harry and Meghan to "establish their own individual pursuits" after launching their brand new website. The couple launched their new platform earlier this month, rebranding from Archewell to Sussex.com.
Louella continued: "Meghan and Harry are strategic in their approach to their public image, and this move could be seen as a way for them to have more control over how they are perceived individually. It may also give them the opportunity to explore different interests and passions without being tied to each other's brands or projects.
"Working with your partner can also be an intense experience, and taking on separate projects could give them both some much-needed breathing space in their relationship. It allows for growth and the chance to have new experiences outside of each other's shadow, particularly given the negative attention they have received as a couple in recent years. This breakaway from joint projects can give them a renewed sense of individuality and independence in their professional lives, which could ultimately benefit their marriage."
