Time is running out for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, with the couple less than a year away from the end of their exclusive Netflix partnership.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a five-year $100million (£78million) deal with the streaming service when they stepped down from the Royal Family. However, it's yet to be announced if the contract will be getting renewed when it comes to an end next year.

Meghan and Harry made headlines around the world with their explosive Netflix docuseries in which they hit out at various members of The Firm. One PR expert has warned the streaming giant will be aware of the "controversy" the couple caused in their partnership.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Mayah Riaz said: "It's without doubt that the Netflix deal has caused media controversy but so does everything the couple do. Netflix knows that their partnership with Harry and Meghan would not be without controversy."

However, Mayah said this is "not something which would hold them back" from working with the Sussexes. She explained: "The streaming platform has already seen a win from the couple's docu-series. However, I suspect they aren't expecting such huge viewing figures for every project."

She also pointed out that it's not just up to Netflix to decide whether the deal is renewed. "The couple might decide they do not want to continue. I believe due to the future producing roles the couple are expected to be involved in, they may feel that they are not able to offer anything to Netflix. Therefore, the partnership may not be renewed," Mayah told us.

The PR expert said Meghan and Harry still have other avenues to explore if the deal isn't renewed. "Firstly, there's already rumours circulating that Meghan is due to bring out her memoir. Harry has already released his.

"Additionally, they could explore opportunities for more writing projects. Meghan could explore more writing projects and maybe release another children's book," Mayah said. She also suggested the couple could take part in more public speaking engagements.

She said they have "proven to be engaging speakers, drawing attention and interest from audiences worldwide". Mayah continued: "They could leverage their platform to secure lucrative public speaking engagements at conferences, events, or even through virtual platforms."

The expert added: "As influential figures, Meghan and Harry could collaborate with brands that align with their values and interests. Endorsements, partnerships, or ambassador roles could offer financial opportunities while maintaining their commitment to causes they care about." She also suggested Harry and Meghan could strengthen their commitment to philanthropy through their Archewell Foundation.
