Meghan Markle will be "jealous" if King Charles decides to abdicate so Prince William becomes King and Kate Middleton becomes Queen, claims a royal expert.
After the King's recent health scare, expert Peter Lloyd has suggested that the 75-year-old monarch abdicate in favour of his oldest son William, 41. An abdication would mean that the Princess of Wales becomes Queen.
King Charles could follow the Danish monarch's suit and abdicate early after Queen Margrethe's announcement she will abdicate on her 52nd year as queen has been received exceptionally well by Denmark's public, despite her popularity as monarch. The 83-year-old made the shock announcement in her New Year's speech, revealing how recent back surgery made her re-think her position.
King Charles' current health state has led expert Peter Lloyd to ask him to consider exiting the monarchy. "I think that King Charles should abdicate and I think that Prince William should step up and do the job, purely because I would love to see the reaction of Harry and Meghan," he said during a debate on GB News. "Imagine how delicious that would be to see them foaming at the mouth over William becoming King?"
Elaborating on Harry and Meghan's supposed reaction he added: "Well, they'd be wild and jealous. Catherine would be Queen."
Talking about the King's current role, he added: "In terms of the engagements that he's carried out, he carries out about three or four times the engagements that William does."
The King is recovering at home from hospital treatment, after spending three nights in The London Clinic undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Charles waved to the media and well-wishers as he left hospital on Monday with the Queen at his side, ready for a “period of private recuperation”. It is reported he could take up to a month off from public duties.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are also not currently carrying out official engagements as Kate recovers at home after two weeks in hospital following major abdominal surgery, with William stepping back temporarily from his royal role to care for her and their children.
