Singer James Morrison’s partner Gill Catchpole’s cause of death has been confirmed after she died aged 45.
The news was revealed by a source on Sunday, who said Morrison was ‘devastated’ by her sudden death after she was found at home in Gloucestershire on Friday.
It’s now been confirmed that Catchpole died by hanging, a coroner was told today.
Catchpole was found by Morrison, 39, at her home on Friday, to which he had a key, after he had been contacted by a friend who couldn’t get access.
The coroner was informed that police were satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances involved.
The couple first met when she moved into his mother’s home as a lodger. They had two children together, Elsie, 15, and Ada, five.
A source had previously claimed that the whole village, where Catchpole reportedly owned a local café, was ‘in complete shock at what has happened’.
A close friend later spoke about how Catchpole was ‘a very positive and determined person’.
They told MailOnline: ‘I saw Gill very regularly, right up until her death, which has affected us all because we’re like one big family around here.
‘She was always waving, saying hello and stopping to chat. She told me just a few days ago that she was looking forward to the future and making big changes in 2024.
‘I never sensed anything was wrong because that was Gill. She was a very positive and determined person who had gone through a lot recently.’
In a 2019 interview, Morrison spoke about how he ‘wouldn’t be here’ without his partner telling OK! magazine: ‘We’ve been through everything together. She’s been there from the start when I had nothing when I was just playing gigs and trying to write songs and not getting anywhere.’
‘She’s a realist and thought I was chasing a pointless career but she supported me,’ he said during the emotional interview.
‘Without her, I don’t think I’d be here. I don’t think I’d be the person I am. I don’t think I’d be as grounded if I hadn’t met her when I was young.’
The You Give Me Something singer has suffered immense heartbreak over the years, including the deaths of his father, Paul, brother, Alexis, and nephew, Callum, within the space of three years.
It’s been claimed Morrison has shelved all work commitments and is focusing on caring for his two daughters, days after he shared a picture seemingly teasing that new music was on the way this year.
