Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been brutally slammed by critics for flying to Jamaica for a glitzy film premiere after their environmental plea.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a rare public appearance on Tuesday night (January 23) when they attended the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Kingston, Jamaica. The couple walked the red carpet together, with Harry in a suave suit and Meghan in a billowing ball gown.

While at the event, the couple posed with Bob Marley's family, as well as beaming from ear-to-ear when posing with the CEO of Paramount Pictures. But due to the couple residing in Montecito, California, eyebrows were soon raised over how the Sussexes travelled from America to Jamaica.

According to The Times, it is understood that "the Sussexes were flown to the island by private jet courtesy of Paramount Pictures, the production company behind the new biopic Bob Marley: One Love". But this hasn't stopped critics from slamming the couple for flying from Montecito to Kingston, with many quick to brand the Sussexes as "hypocrites" for having made environmental pleas in the past.

Taking to X, one person said: "Astonishing to think they went on a 6,000-mile flight by private jet for this." However, someone snapped back: "Total straight line flight distance from LAX to Kingston, Jamaica is 2,788 miles. This is equivalent to 4,487 kilometers or 2,423 nautical miles. It is a business decision for the Paramount jet to fly to the premiere of its film. They fly their boss, his family, staff, guests, etc."

A third person then added: "Climate preacher flying again bloody hypocrite." While someone else said: "Anyone else think it's hilarious that they have to fly all the way to Jamaica in order to be invited to a red carpet movie premier?"

In 2019, the couple preached about "environmental damage", with Prince Harry quoted saying: "Environmental damage has been treated as a necessary by-product of economic growth. So deeply ingrained is this thinking that it has been considered part of the natural order that humankind’s development comes at the expense of our planet.

He added: "Only now are we starting to notice and understand the damage that we’ve been causing. With nearly 7.7 billion people inhabiting this Earth, every choice, every footprint, every action makes a difference." The Duke then urged that people need to "make great change and help save our planet", adding: "We can only do this together, and every little bit helps."
