Prince Harry intended his appearance at the Bob Marley movie premiere to be “less formal” than his wife Meghan Markle, a body language expert has revealed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were surprise guests at the Bob Marley: One Love premiere in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday evening, and looked relaxed as they arrived hand in hand to the bash. While Harry opted for a black suit and white shirt with no tie, wife Meghan, 42, looked stunning in a dreamy ensemble from Carolina Herrera.
The mother-of-two wowed in the all-black outfit, which featured a satin ballgown skirt and strappy black top, and had her hair off her face in a chic updo, which showed off her glowing complexion. Fans of the duchess were quick to heap praise on her red carpet worthy outfit, with one calling her “a princess”, while another said Meghan was “breathtaking”.
Body language expert Judi James believes Harry and Meghan were out of sync as he dressed more casually for the event in Jamaica in order to let his wife shine in her incredible dress. “Harry’s open-neck shirt did suggest a desire to put in a less formal appearance than Meghan in her stunning, elegant ball gown and his body language did look most assured when he could relax from the red carpet walk and pose laughing for a selfie,” she exclusively told The Mirror.
Judi noted their loved-up appearance at the premiere was a throwback to the “early days” of their romance, as they arrived hand-in-hand to the bash. “In terms of their intentional statement gestures to the cameras, this appearance as a tactile, bonded celebrity couple seemed aimed at showing them in as a similarly excited and carefree light as they did in the early days of their relationship,” she explained.
“There is the mutual hand clasp with fingers curled in a cupping shape and as they walk the red carpet their body language is mirrored in terms of their forward-leaning torsos, suggesting keenness and pleasure at the gig. At one point their eye expressions seemed to project a matching gleaming excitement and anticipation,” Judi added.
Onlookers were overjoyed to see Harry and Meghan at the premiere, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared stress-free and happy as they mingled with guests, including Bob Marley’s son Ziggy. But while the former Suits star is used to red carpet events, Judi noted that the prince was on edge in front of the waiting paparazzi. “Harry’s eye expression did seem to change to include some more anxious rounding of the eyes at times and his arm movements looked a little rigid as he face-touched or bit his lower lip to look less assured than his wife, whose elegant, pitch-perfect smile stayed confidently in place,” she stated.
It’s not yet known why Harry and Meghan chose to attend the premiere, and the Sussexes have since faced a harsh backlash from royal fans. The couple are under fire for failing to visit Kate Middleton, who is recovering in hospital from major abdominal surgery, and instead choosing to fly six hours from Los Angeles to Jamaica for the bash.
