Police were called to Alexander Avenue in Droitwich on Friday morning

An 81-year-old man has been arrested after an 80-year-old woman was found dead in a Worcestershire town.

A man in his forties was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition, following the incident in Droitwich.

The older man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

He is also currently receiving hospital treatment, West Mercia Police said.

Emergency services were called out to the town’s Alexander Avenue at around 8.45pm on Friday.

Officers believe the people involved are known to each other.

Detective Chief Inspector Leighton Harding said: ‘We understand the concern incidents of this nature cause within local communities, we believe those involved are known to each and there is no risk to the wider community.’
