Harry and Meghan could lose 'position and power' if Royal titles get taken from them

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could lose their "position and power" if their Royal titles get stripped from them, an expert has warned.

Last weekend it emerged that the couple could be stripped of their titles if a new bombshell law passes. Conservative MP Bob Seely wants to adopt laws that were originally passed in the First World War to deny German nobles their British titles.

The bill would force the House of Commons to consider turning the Duke and Duchess of Sussex into simple Mr and Mrs. Mr Seely has explained that this "nuclear option" is "in support of the monarchy" and aims to respect the decision of those who no longer want to be royals by removing "their titles and privileges."

And now an entertainment expert has warned of the "catastrophic" consequences that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would face if they were to lose their Royal titles. Mark Boardman, CEO of MarkMeets, has said: "The financial impact of losing royal titles for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be catastrophic for the Sussexes and an irreversible, significant turning point resulting in potentially huge consequences."

Speaking to Express, he added: "This includes the loss of income, position, and power, and even a loss of access to their primary income sources, including commercial deals, specifically, their partnership with Netflix, which is tied to their personal brand and public image."

Mr Boardman did however note that while the pair could see their personal brand and public image damaged, it would damage Meghan's image less. This is due to Meghan's popularity in the US not being influenced by a Royal title, with her "individual achievements and personal qualities" more likely to be taken into account.

This comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to live their lives in Montecito, California after stepping down as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and moving across the pond. The couple reside in the glitzy neighbourhood with their son Prince Archie, 4, and their daughter Princess Lilibet, 2.
