Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Need to Establish What Their Purpose is and stop Grifting

According to Endgame author Omid Scobie, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have an "uncertain future" ahead of them after they stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020. "When I spoke to people in their orbit, they admit that it hadn't quite gone to plan," Omid told People. "They really need to establish what their purpose is."

Harry and Meghan—who currently reside in the Suits actor's home state of California with their children, Lilibet and Archie—have been working "to become financially independent" over the years. Since they distanced themselves from the monarchy, the couple launched the "charitable entity" Archewell in 2020 and have actively worked with The Invictus Games Foundation.

The couple also inked major multimillion-dollar deals with Spotify and Netflix, which graced fans with Meghan's Archetypes podcast in August 2022 and the record-breaking Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. Harry also went on to publish his own tell-all book, Spare, earlier this year. They have since ended their deal with Spotify.

Since Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton have stepped into more serious roles as royals. Kate has been focused on modernizing her image for a steady future as she makes more appearances and lets her guard down with the public.

According to Scobie, Wills, Kate, Meghan, and Harry all made their last appearance together after Queen Elizabeth's death. "It showed that all four are capable of switching it on and doing what's right in the moment," the author said before dishing "The first question I had to sources was, 'Do you think that this will lead to something else?'" The sources' response? "A firm 'no.'"

When Harry published Spare, he revealed how he and his brother's relationship had changed over time. "I saw Harry's release of Spare as his last attempt at telling his family how he's felt for years," Scobie told People. "Because clearly there's never been an open enough forum to have these conversations or share these feelings."

Scobie adds that "William's so far forward in his journey that what is important today is very different to what was important 10 years ago."

"You really feel this when you talk to people working at the palace, that they really consider what Harry and Meghan, but mostly Harry, say as just irritating noise," Scobie continued. "The feelings of this man are not worth anything anymore. That's sort of typical of any big corporation. I know it's different because they're family. But as we've known for a long time, the meaning of family is very different to them."

Scobie reveals Meghan has "moved on" from the royals, but Harry "still has unfinished business when it comes to his battles with the press."

"His challenge will be to find something that balances that out so we can see him working in a space that isn't connected to the ties that bind from the past," the author adds.
