Chelsea confirm sixth summer transfer as Benfica starlet arrives
Chelsea have made their intention clear of enhancing their development squad this summer in addition to the first team which has already seen the additions of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku
Chelsea have announced the signing of Diego Moreira from Benfica, quickly following on from the addition of Alex Matos earlier on Saturday. Moreira is currently involved with Portugal's under-21 side at the European Championships in which Levi Colwill, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk are competing.
The 18-year-old winger has already made his senior debut for Benfica, making his debut in May 2022 against Pacos de Ferreira. However, the bulk of his experience has come for their B team in 2022/23 and also in the UEFA Youth League. His career so far has seen Moreira score 10 goals and provided 11 assists across 64 appearances, with five strikes and seven assists coming in 15 appearances in the UEFA Youth League.
Moreira could face new teammates Colwill and Madueke when England face Portugal in quarter-finals of the tournament on Sunday. The youth international has already featured against Netherlands and Belgium after being called up to replace Arsenal's Fabio Vieira, who pulled out of the squad with an injury.
