Reports have claimed that Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is now on the list of players to be sold this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, the 24-year-old is one of the players the club are happy to sell in an attempt to balance the books.
Last season was certainly not an easy one for Cucurella, with it being his first since his big-money move from Brighton.
Mistakes became a regular part of his game, and his lack of attacking threat from at times a left win-back role saw the team become lopsided.
The Spaniard’s best performances arguably came on the left of a back three. Against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League he was imperious at the back.
Cucurella on the list to be sold
Reports in the last couple days have stated that new manager Mauricio Pochettino was considering handing Cucurella another chance to impress after a tough first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
However, it looks as if now the decision is going to be made for him, and the Blues are happy to listen to offers for him.
This may partly be because of the strength in depth the club have in the position behind likely starter Ben Chilwell.
Last season saw the emergence of Lewis Hall as a genuine option in the position, even though he came through the academy predominantly playing in central midfield.
If there is one positive sign from Graham Potter’s tenure at Chelsea it is certainly the discovery of the teenager from nowhere to become a regular in the matchday squad.
There is also the returning Ian Maatsen from his loan spell at Burnley, where he played a key part in them returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
